measure YOUR HEAD

Step 1

STEP 1

Locate a soft, flexible seamstress tape measure. Determine the widest portion of your head, typically starting just above the eyebrows and in the rear, you may feel a slight knot on the back of your skull.

No soft tape measure? Simply cut a 30” piece of string and grab a yard stick.

Step 2

Using a mirror, place the tape so that centimeters are visible starting at the front and wrap it comfortably around your head covering the widest portion until it overlaps above the eyebrows and ears.

If using a string method, follow the steps above. Mark on the string where it overlaps so that you can lay it down against the yard stick to determine the length in inches.

You should be left with a measurement between 52 & 63 centimeters. Use our provided conversion chart below to determine your appropriate hat size. Enjoy.

Anything you'll feel confident wearing.

Those who have never worn a hat before tend to start with something
short to medium, around 2.5 inches or shorter. Our Dean the Butcher is a popular choice for this reason. Once you get comfortable with that, it'll be easy for you to decide to go up or down in brim size.

Otherwise, the best trick is to wear a hat that sits within your frame. If you have narrow shoulders, try a short-to-medium brim; if you have wide shoulders, a wide brim may suit you best to fill out your frame.

It's always best to wear hats around for a couple days to get accustomed to them. After you've overcome the initial distraction of seeing something larger than usual on your head, you'll be able to assess your preferences.

While hats can be forgiving, they can still require a bit of TLC if you wear them often.

If you don't wear it for long periods, make sure it is stored properly, brush it between wears, and give it a quick steam every season.

Very good looking good quality

I was wearing it on Saturday everyone like my hat and my outfit , lots of compliments It was comfortable to wear , the black color was deep ,I’m a mature gentleman so the hat didn’t cover my face nor was I trying to come off as a hipster I was solid to pick up and down with feeling it would lose it shape Thsnk you for your timely service also , PS my next hat will be Blue color for the Fall season

Nice wool hat

The Charlestown has a narrow brim and a normally-sized crown, kind of like a Trilby. It's a good traditional shape that is jaunty. A black ribbon on black felt keeps the tone subdued, but colored ribbons bought separately can add some pizzazz if you want. The hat is well structured with thick felt that will keep its shape over time. The synthetic liner reminds me of a black printed handkerchief. Has a canvas sweat band instead of leather - a cost-cutting measure, but it's comfy. "Designed in San Francisco. Made in China." Hard to say if it's true to size, it is labeled "small" I treat my hats well and I expect this hat will have a long and useful life.
