an interview series with Goorin collectors
Since we interact with so many hat-lovers on our social media channels, Nicky (our social media and community manager), started asking frequent Goorin collectors about their collections, why they love hats, and to share what their hat walls at home look like!
Our next interview in this #hatwallwednesday series is with Josh Petry, of West Virginia, who's Farm journey has been enhanced through connecting with actors and musicians - Check out the interview with Nicky and Josh below!
Q: When did you begin your Goorin Bros adventure? / A: Back in 2016. I am a devoted fan of the tv show, The Walking Dead. I noticed that Andrew Lincoln who plays Rick Grimes on the show, was always sporting a Goorin cap off screen. I immediately fell in love with the look of the hats and I knew that I needed to own some of my own.
Q: When did you begin to realize you were starting a collection? / A: Once I discovered the Goorin website, I purchased 3 or 4 truckers on my first virtual visit. My collection steadily grew from here, and really exploded with the introduction of Farm Fresh Friday’s. Farm Fresh Friday’s have provided a steady form of anticipation through the week for me, as I enthusiastically wait to see the new beautiful creation of the Goorin design team.
Q: Was there a mind-shift somewhere along the way where you knew you were about to embark on something bigger? / A: After buying a few Goorin caps, I had the pleasure of meeting Andrew Lincoln the following year in 2017. He was wearing his Goorin trucker and I had mine on. I told him how he had inspired my interest in this epic hat company, and I proposed that we trade Goorin hats. Andrew was thrilled to hear of my newfound love for the hats, and happily agreed to trade caps. After this moment, I realized how the power of fashion, and specifically the Goorin company, could provide a foundation for communal bonds.
Q: What are these hats fulfilling from within that has made you keep going and adding to your collection? / A: I have never been one to devote much time to fashion or apparel. Goorin has radically altered that for me. The Goorin truckers have revolutionized my perspective on just how valuable the right accessory can be. I find the truckers allow me to experience a deeper sense of self-expression. I have come to realize that the different Goorin hats are able to match not only my outfit for the day, but my mood and attitude as well.
Q: What are your top three favorite hats that you own? / A: My 3 favorite hats are the “High Horse” hat from the Carousel collection, the “Peace” hat, and the “cougar” cap that I got from Andrew Lincoln.
Q: Any that you missed or think we should bring back or make for the first time? / A: I have a goofy looking Hound dog with huge ears that I think would make for the perfect patch. Even though I think the Goorin company has nailed it so far, if I had one to recommend one for the future, it’d be a Hound Dog.
Q: You are a brand ambassador. How has that been going? / A: Being a brand ambassador, has been a great experience for me. This experience has allowed me to share my love for the company with those who I care about. The most fulfilling experience I’ve had in this regard was supplying a Goorin trucker to my favorite musical artist. Grammy award winning artist, Justin Vernon of Bon Iver, had expressed to me that he wanted a Goorin “Peace” cap for his own hat collection. I was able to hook him up with one and he later wore it on stage at a concert that week. Later, I was able to get him and the rest of the band to sign my own Peace hat.
Q: Any message you wanted to give to our customers about why you choose Goorin and why you choose to continue adding more and more hats to your collection? / A: While I may not have the largest farm collection, the hats I do own hold a great sentimental and special place in my heart. I look forward to the future of Goorin and exploring how they continue to revolutionize the hat game. As Goorin continues innovating incredibly beautiful caps, I’ll continue to come back.
