Hats in Love

Hat-lovers unite this Valentine's Day

Hats in Love

I may be bias, but I think that hats are such a perfect gift for loved ones. Upon researching the meaning of hats in the gift realm, I came across a description of hats holding power, because they cover the head and therefore thought. I find that super interesting in a symbolic sense, but for me it basically boils down to this: buying a hat for someone is extremely thoughtful.

I feel like this applies to first-timers as well as avid hat-lovers. It feels personal, and like something special that you chose specifically for them. I've definitely bought my share of hats as gifts for my husband Sean over the years. Last Valentine's Day I snagged him the Willie R., which was special because he hadn't owned or even tried on a cattleman crown before. The brown color with an olive hue coordinated well with his existing wardrobe so it never felt like a "forced gift."

All that to say, here are my V-day 2022 picks for my husband Sean and why:

1. Burning Colonel - We are not new to the beauties of Colonel Pierce and [BLOCK No.25] in this house. The Fall release of S and S Tavern was even named after us! But what Sean is missing in his hat wardrobe is a super dark colored hat. He has a lot of the brown/whiskey colored ones, but a dark dark brown, almost black?, needs to be on the list. Plus, knowing how much he adores the [BLOCKB No.25] shape, this was a no-brainer.

2. Tubular - This western style is [BLOCK No.18], so slightly shorter in crown height, and slightly more narrow in brim width. I chose this style for him because it's actually a black hat, which he has none of. However, since he typically wears a lot of brown leather accessories (shoes, belt, wallet, etc.) in his everyday, the brown detailing of Tubular will make it easy for him to grab this one off the wall and head out for the day without even having to think about it.Now, let's see what hats Sean chose for me:

1. Hickory Knolls - If you know me, you know that I am a big fan of taupe. Admittedly I have about seven different hats in the taupe/tan/cream family. I do gravitate to those the most, and I always feel my most confident in wearing a light-colored, wide-brimmed hat. Hickory Knolls does it for me because of the simple detailing that makes it stand out just a little bit from the others on my wall.

2. El Paraguas - I own two of our El Sol collaboration styles and they are such special pieces. The attention to detail is immaculate and the craftsmanship notable. I love the El Sol collaboration hats because they are limited edition and are conversation pieces. Sean chose El Paraguas for me because the 4" teardrop crown is so easy to keep in rotation.

Hats as gifts are especially nice for couples, family members, and friends who share the love for hats together. There's a special bond amongst hat-lovers and being real-life-lovers only accentuates that feeling. wedding photography: @MinRaePhoto / minraephoto.com
