Block Series: No.35

the classic porkpie your grandfather told you about

Block Series: No.35 - Goorin Bros.

Alright y'all, let's bring it way back. I'm talking one of the OG's of OG's - the diamond crown porkpie. The evolution of this hat is amazing, and first became recognized in the mid 19th century. It is said to have gotten its name from the famous English delicacy, and many musicians, actors and filmmakers in the time period made this style hat famous, such as: Buster Keaton, Charles Mingus, and Gene Hackman's character Popeye Doyle in the film The French Connection. Over the years many jazz musicians have gravitated towards this style as the brim is one of the shortest, and the crown height is one of the most shallow, making it super easy to wear on stage.

The Details: 3.5" diamond shaped crown / 1.75" snap brim / made in USA

Why we love it: Being the most shallow crown, and most short brim width this can be classified as an intro hat in terms of intimidating qualities. It has a soft finish, not too structured or stiff, so very easily can be plopped on your head and walk out the door. It has a certain allure to it, very swanky feeling in fact. Looks amazing on rounder faces so the brim width mimics the jawline, so it never feels like "too much hat," like how some of our other blocks could be viewed. Diamond crown pork pie styles are so classic they will almost never go out of style - very tried and true. I love to see this style breaking the mold - pairing it with an outfit that seems almost opposite to tie in the classic aspects with a modern twist.
